Cincinnati Sneaker Showcase 2011 - Recap

The stars aligned over the weekend to bring the sneaker elite out to Cincinnati for the bi-annual Sneaker Showcase, brought to us by the great folks at Corporate with proceeds from the event going to the Shining Star AAU program.  Despite staying at the event's hotel, my fam and I arrived a bit late to the actual event, but I was still able to get some good snaps of the vendors and collector's tables.  I also got a chance to catch up with some old sneaker friends as well as meet some great new people.  At these kinds of events, it's rare to see much merch in my Size, but I was able to see a plethora of things (older and recent) from WindyCitySole's table, so that was pretty cool.  The sneakerdude to sneakerette ratio was about 10 to 1 but the ladies that were in attendance definitely held it down, with a nice variety of kicks, and a slew of #teamVashtie chicks rocking her Air Jordan II retro which released back in October 2010, myself included! I expected to see at least one other chick in those IIs, but there was about 4 (or 5) of us, lol.  That didn't stop the merriment tho, still had a great time and an amazing weekend.  Special thanks to Matt and SneakerDave for their hospitality, and shoutouts to Chad (OSD), ShowiDeez, Rox (Team L.a.r.k), GK (mysoletokeep), Fee (FSF), G-Roc (TSG), Oscar & Jose (Modern-Notoriety), Premium Pete (SneakerTube.tv), my SP family Joanna, Stephen, Daven (Winner's Blvd), Monica & Sergio. Sometimes a Sneaker Company Will...

MAKE YOU GO ABSOLUTEY INSANE & BANKRUPT!

With all of the recent news circulating of nearly every JB fan favorite dropping this year, tis a LOT to keep up with.  This post is intended to separate tentative releases (aka rumors) from confirmed drops (facts) and does not include any of the possible 25th Anniversary collection releases or new numbered colroways. 

The biggest issue for Team S.F.S'ers is whether or not these retros (and in some cases, re- retros) will be available in GS sizes.  We have been having great luck with JB as of late with full family releases, so I am hoping we can ride this train throughout 2010.  Below is what we can possbily expect to see on shelves this year, and if you have any other news or corrections to what's here, be sure to drop a line or two in the comments section.

Things I Need

To say "I've slept on these" is the understatement of the century - when they dropped in 08 I was like meeeeeeeeh, but time went on and they started to grow on me. Then I had the opportunity to get a pair a year later (DS no less!) but hit the snooze button yet again, UGH! Maybe if I wish hard enough, they'll turn up again somewhere, third time's the charm, right?

Kicks: Nike WMS Dunk High 6.0 - Journeys Exclusive

So I'm sure you've all probably heard or seen in the mall the sneaker/skate spot Journeys. Well, here we have one of theeeeeeeee freakin hottest Nike 6.0 Dunk Highs EVER . Let's break down the damn dope elements of this sneaker shall we?

1. The Colorway : Okay how awesome do these colors look together? Really awesome! Mint green and mustard yellow blend so well, these are quite possible rockable all year long.

2: Material Variety: Smooth leather and suede are used to enhance the look of this 6.0 to even the ranks of a premium dunk high. Me likey.

3: Translucent Side Panels: Yeaaaaaaaaaaah, this pretty much speaks for itself.

Sneak of the Week: Nike WMS Blazer High - Nautical

By far one of the coolest sneakers I've seen this year, Nike steps up their game once again on the ladies side of things with this new Nautical themed blazer. Toting a sea blue and white colorway, the awesomeness continues when you check out the sail cloth on the side panels that can be torn away to reveal a secret message - which totally ties in the whole "search for hidden treasure under the sea" thing. Set for release sometime in April, these puppies are sure to fly off the coast, ahem, I mean, shelves fast.

And They Say Chi City: Uprise x Stevie "Dread" Snyder Chicago SB Blazer Release Party

So last night the good folks over at Uprise Skateshop (1820 N. Milwaukee) threw a slammin release party for the Chicago Nike SB Blazer Mid. Designed by Chi town skatebaording legend Stevie "Dread" Snyder, the sneaker is inspired by the colors on the Chicago Municipal flag and is a definite BANGER (no pun intended). The crowd was great, drinks were plenty, and the raffle turned out extremely well with 8 blazers up for grabs and picked up by the winners at the official store release today. I had an awesome time celebrating the outstanding style and chi town flare Stevie Dread has given the skateboarding world.

Could it Be (GS)???: - Air Jordan III True Blue - August 2009

In this new series - Could it be (gs) - I'll be highlighting some new and upcoming sneaker releases that are currently in size limbo. My hope is to bring light to the situation and perhaps awaken the change in some of the leading sneaker companies.

No better way than to start off here: It's official, the JB will be retro-ing the iconic Jordan III (3) model in the True Blue colorway. Jordan heads all over the world are cheering (well, some OG collectors are frownin', but ya'll will be aight) for what is surely going to be a highly anticipated Fall 09 release. But that leaves the female sneaker heads wondering, will JB show US some love and re-retro this colorway in GS sizes??? For now, we can only hope, but I for one am surely praying we catch a break on this one and whatever other hot Jordan releases that drop this year. We missed out on the original DMPs a couple years ago as well as the few dope premium Jordan 1s which released last year. OUR MONEY IS JUST AS GREEN (and in some cases, even longer) AS OUR MALE COUNTERPARTS - SO DROP EM GS! You feelin' me ladies?

Collabos: Kime Buzzelli x Vans WMNS Wellesly - Summer 2009

Yoski! Sneakerheads all around the world can appreciate a great collabo - done right of course! Well today we bring you an awesome look for the ladies, created by LA based artist Kime Buzzelli. Ms Buzzelli lives and works above her art boutique Show Pony in Echo Pack, California. She is known for her vivid coloring techniques and true to life portraits. There was no better way to show off her sweet designs than to team up with sneaker powerhouse Vans to create this women's Wellesly. Dropping in two colorways - teal and black - both will feature a CMYK (color code for cyan, magenta, yellow and key *black*) based design. Surely these will turn heads! Check for em this June at Vans retailers!

Peek-A-Boo: Nike Skinny Dunk Highs "Feathers" & " Butterflies"

To be released in Spring 2009, we have two refreshing new designs to the innovative Nike Skinny Dunk model we previewed in the post below. The first Skinny Dunk features a classic bred (black and red) colorway with a yummy red gel sole. It is also decorated with a pattern of tiny feathers around the sides and back of the dunk. The second Skinny totes a dark metallic gold around the toe box, on the swoosh and upper back panel, as well as on the lace eyelets. Its sole is an icey grey and the rest of the sneak is covered with a creme colored base and features a beautiful group of butterflies in the same fashion as the feathers on the first dunk. I'm UBER excited to cop these next year, as I'm sure you all are! Stay tuned as more specific release date and location info becomes available!

SFS Alert: Nike Halloween Pack GS!!!!

Aww FRIGGIN YEAH son! New exciting, spooky, haha GS Halloween Pack by Nike featuring a Dunk Hi and Dunk Lo. Both sneakers are very cool and creepy (<---geez really), and feature a special glow in the dark pattern that you obviously can only see in the dark lol. The dunk lo comes in a ghostly (enough already!) black/cactus/and white colorway with a ghost pattern found throughout the shoe. The Dunk Hi follows suit in a black/white/orange colorway, but it features a frightening (sorry, last halloween reference) bat pattern. When the lights go out, the kiddies and ladies will definitely put some fear (ha! I lied) into all those around.

The pack is available now and retails at $65 for the low and $75 for the high.

You Should Know: CHICAGO DUNKXCHANGE THIS WEEKEND SEPT 12TH AND 13TH!!!

Yezzur the Dunkxchange will be hitting the city of wind this weekend and I know its gonna be a great event for the city. Friday's event is a skate day taking place in Wilson Park - fun for all ages right? Saturday is the official dunkxchange taking place at the WildHare (interesting choice of venue...). Anyhoo, sneaker sellers, buyers, and collectors will be in the place to be making the most out of what is sure to be a fantastic situation. Peep the flyers below for more details! Jordan Head Documentary Recap August 23, 2008

Over the weekend E and I had the pleasure of being part of the filming for the last scene of the Jordan Head documentary. Filming took place at the United Center in front of the legendary Jordan Statue. Despite the fact that it was 3 billion degrees outside and we waited for at least three hours to actually start filming, it was a great experience to meet and greet with other Jordan collectors, wearers, and idolizers from all over the city and country. Erika and I had a blast and really held it down for the ladies! I'm such a poopie head tho, I was so busy taking pics of everyone else, I forget to take some of me! hahaha I did happen to see me elsewhere online tho, so I'll just jack theirs! iDig: Kendo ZX 800 x Adidas

As part of the AZX project, Adidas has been teaming up with major stores and sneaker groups around the world to bring us hot collabos. And representing the "K" is the dopest female sneaker shop around - Kendo LA. The purple, grey (which happens to be one of my fav colors!!!), and aqua colors on the ZX 800 fuse feminity with strength and exhuberance (yeaaaah, I said it).






They really did an excellent job with designing the colorway for this shoe, it is definitely one of the illest I have seen in a while.


The Kendo ZX 800 is scheduled for release at Kendo on September 20th.

Sometimes A Sneaker Company Will...

keep innovating an already awesome idea! The good folks over at Nike were already receiving the big thumbs up from sneakerheads with the creation of the Members Only store as part of Nikestore.com. Now with the invention of 77Burnside, a online store similar to Members Only but with a sleeker design, registered account members will be able to purchase a neat selection of Air 1s, Jays, and more! As of yet, the selection isn't anything exclusive, but who knows what's in store! Make sure you check it out!

iDig: Supra Spring 2009 Collection

Me likey Supra. Me likey Supra alot. The brand of skateboarding kicks with a straight banging street culture vibe has been consistent in bringing the heat with their releases. Spring 2009 is guaranteed to be even nastier (in a good way folks). Here are a few picks of what to expect come the top of the new year. And ladies, don't sleep, Supra normally makes their kicks in sizes as low as a 4 in mens, so get your ish together!
